A few weeks ago Pam from Purrfectplay.com sent along a box of organic dog toys for Zoe to evaluate. Thank you Pam! Zoe liked the toys so much I decided to share her experiences in case any readers might be looking for high-quality toys for their cat or dog.
First impressions count, and it became obvious Purrfectplay knows this upon opening the box. The first thing that struck me was the lack of plastic in the box. None. Zero. Each toy came wrapped in a nifty reusable paper bag. Tags were attached to the toys with string. The packing list had a handwritten note on it. A nice newsletter was included. All of this is called attention to detail — it counts and it was definitely noticed and appreciated!
The other thing that struck me as I was unwrapping the toys was the smell, or actually the lack of smell. Every dog toy I have ever purchased has had a smell to it — sometimes rubber, sometimes chemical, always artificial. Not these… The box smelled, well, like a box actually and the toys have a nice, natural scent.
Zoe received 3 toys to test:
Wool Ball — This came with a bag to wash the ball in — a nice touch! Zoe isn’t a dog that likes to chase things (except squirrels and groundhogs) around for some reason, so I wasn’t sure how she would react. Well, as soon as I threw the ball she rushed to get it and started wagging her tail! Good sign! We played for a long time that night and she has not picked up any of her other ball toys since the Wool Ball showed up.
Organic Cotton Tug Toy — This is very nice — it is braided cotton with knots at the end and in the middle to help with grip. It is softer than the traditional pull ropes so it is easier for Zoe to sink her teeth into. Zoe’s favorite way to play is to tug on a toy I’m holding to try to get it away from me, so this Tug Toy really is up her alley!
Hemp Dumpling — This is a prototype that Pam wanted some feedback on. It is a padded toy with a squeaker inside shaped like a dumpling. Yes — a dumpling! It is rather large and I can see how it could be used as a throw toy, like a padded Frisbee or something. Zoe doesn’t fetch things, so she ended up finding her own way to play.
To be perfectly honest, neither Zoe nor I really knew what to do with the dumpling the first day or two. She was more into the Wool Ball and the Tug Toy at first because they were familiar to her. That quickly changed when we discovered the Dumpling squeaks…
For Zoe it was love at first squeak. She stopped what she was doing and looked at the Dumpling. I squeaked it some more. She cocked her head to the side. I handed it to her and she started chewing like a maniac! For the next two hours all you could hear was, “Squeak, squeak, squeak!”
I’m not sure why, but since then Zoe will only play with the Hemp Dumpling. Every night she brings it to me and wants to play tug-of-war with it. When I get tired she lays there and chews on it for hours. Perhaps dogs have some hidden affection for hemp?
Whatever the reason, Zoe loves this thing! Better yet, after hours and hours of chewing and tugging the Hemp Dumpling is holding up better than any other toy she has ever played with. There is not a single puncture, tear or anything. Even thick rope and heavy nylon toys get ripped up pretty quickly with her chewing, but not this thing! Hemp is tough!
Obviously Zoe and I like the Purrfectplay dog toys. How much does Zoe like them? Since they arrived I have kept all of her old toys out and in the same area so she could choose what she wanted to play with. Amazingly to me, Zoe has not played with any of her older toys at all since the Purrfectplay toys showed up! Not one single time! In fact, she has such a preference for the Purrfectplay toys that I ended up throwing away her old toys before this post was published.
If you have a cat or dog and are looking for high-quality toys that are safe for your pet I recommend Purrfectplay without reservation.

Hi Zoe and Brian!
Thank you so much for trying out our toy. We are glad you liked it and that is held up well. You look like such a big dog I am surprised the toy seemed a tad large for you. This just shows that everyone enjoys toys in their own way!
Your farm sounds wonderful. Pam
Thank you for the awesome toys Pam! Zoe plays with that dumpling every day!
