There are always a lot of ideas bouncing around here in regards to what to post about, etc. Some post ideas have gestated for almost a year, others come to us spur-of-the-moment. Publishing a blog is an interesting process.
We thought it might interest some of you to learn about some of the things that we are working on.
Of course, every two weeks we will continue to publish Tatiana’s Coldprairie Chronicles. Her posts are informative and always fun to read. Most of all, we enjoy seeing gardening through the eyes of someone who is new to it. Tatiana’s enthusiasm is contagious, so we urge you to catch some of it by reading The Coldprairie Chronicles Part 1, Part 2 and part 3!
On June 29, 2008 the Meadowwood Garden website was born! On our 1 year anniversary we are planning an inside look at who we are, why we do this, and what we have in store for the future. Should be a fascinating read!
Have you seen our new Tomato Grow Guide? It is our attempt to provide everything you need to know to grow tomatoes successfully — all on one page! We are currently working on about 15 more of these — one for just about every common garden vegetable we can think of. Peppers should be the next one we release. These Grow Guides are designed to change over time as we learn about new and different techniques. If you have something you’d like to add to any of them you can drop us a line at growguides@meadowwoodgarden.com. With your help we hope to be a premier resource for vegetable gardening knowledge.
Have you ever wondered if fertilizer is worth the time and expense? This year we are conducting a small informal experiment about that very topic! Expect more details soon — it should be interesting to see what the conclusion is.
Need support? Our Super Sturdy Trellis how-to article has taken on a life of it’s own! Literally thousands of people have read about and hopefully built their own Super Sturdy Trellis! Have you?
And speaking of trellises — this year we are experimenting with a new tomato support system. We got the idea last year after the Hurricane Ike winds leveled our tomatoes. What is inexpensive, easy to set up, and sturdy as all get-out? Keep checking back — we’ll let you know very soon!
Last, we are working on a way help out people who might not be able to garden otherwise — whether by circumstance or not having the means or knowledge or whatever. Have you heard that old adage that goes: take someone fishing and feed them for a day, teach that person to fish and feed them for life? At MWG we feel we can make that adage come true by teaching and helping people to grow food. We will share more about this later.
That’s all for now! As you can see there is a lot happening behind the scenes at MWG. Keep checking in for all of this and much more!
