For 2009 there will be quite a few changes at Meadowwood Garden.
The leftover soil from last year will be used to create 4 or 5 new smaller beds where the gourds and vining plants grew last year. This should increase the planting area by approx. 20%.
The landscape fabric used in the pathways got demolished throughout the course of the year and especially in the Hurricane Ike winds. New fabric will be placed and some sort of covering will be put down. Some sort of pea gravel would do the trick.
The vining plants (gourds, squash, melon) will be moved out of the fenced area to the rear of the workshop. Supports will be constructed that will allow the vines to grow to the roof.
Tomatoes will get a new support system. Eggplant will also be supported this year. More details in a future post.
Cold weather crops will be planted in Spring. Some garlic is already overwintering. Plans include growing broccoli, lettuce and peas.
Pole beans might get 1 more shot this year.
Many new varieties will be planted. Basically a lot of tweaking based upon the experience gained from last year is going to happen.
